The project authors created a dark-colored interior for a 72 sq. m. apartment in a historic building in Vilnius’ Old Town. According to Viktorija Edmė, this project was an extraordinary task, as the aim was to ensure that the interior of the apartment reflected its history, while at the same time being modern, comfortable to live in, and blending harmoniously with its surroundings.
The main interior accents – rough authentic beams, massive dark kitchen and work area structures – contrast with elegant accents, small furniture and lighting details, smoky glass lamps, and silk-shiny materials. The interior also preserves and restores authentic spaces and old interior elements such as walls, door arches, beams, and fragments of wall paintings. Handcrafted smoked oak flooring was chosen for this interior, echoing the color of the historic beams on the ceilings and stairs.
